18 December 2008

Based on much appreciated feedback, I am releasing version 2.2.2 of the Australian English dictionary file for Internet Explorer users.

Version 3.0.x of the Australian English spellcheck dictionary files and the Kelvin version, which is Australia's only prescriptive spellcheck dictionary, are FREE for clients, customers of JustLocal and those using the services of Virtual Profit Sharing partners.

NEWS FLASH - 15 September 2008

Version 3.0.0 of the Australian English dictionary files now available
for Internet Explorer 7/8.

Internet Explorer - add spellchecking

Internet Explorer is the leading browser used by more people than all the other browsers added together. In this day and age of online forms and services, a surprising ommision is the lack of spellchecking facilities. By adding spellchecking to Interent Explorer, many of the applications which often don't have spellchecking, are spellcheck enabled. Applications such as the following:

  • Web forms.
  • Facebook chatting.
  • Web mail.
  • and many more applications.

In order to use spellchecking in Internet Explorer and add-on is required. A suitable add-on is IE7Pro. IE7Pro provides in-line spellchecking similar to word processing packages and can be used with the Australian English spellcheck dictionaries I create and maintain.

The latest version of IE7Pro is available from the file area.

Right click on the following file.

Internet Explorer - Australian English dictionary files

The latest Australian English dictionary files for use with Internet Explorer 7/8 and IE7Pro are provided below. There are two versions. The full version and the Kelvin version. For details on the difference between the two versions, read the information on the main dictionary page.

In summary, the Kelvin version removes the spelling many people consider to be American spelling, such as "organize" or "summarize". It should be noted these words are acceptable spelling variations in Australia and not exclusively the American spelling. Words like "organize" and "summarize", are a couple of the thousands of words which are secondary spelling variations. The Kelvin version of the dictionary file provides the primary spelling of words in Australia. This provides more consistent spelling in documents and removes confusion as to which spelling variation to use. The full version of the dictionary file contains both spelling variations, such as "organise" and "organize".

Download the file as follows:
Right click on the following file.
Save to your Desktop.
Right click on the zip file and select Extract and extract all the files.
Open the Installation.txt file using Notepad.
Read the instructions on how to install IE7Pro and the dictionary files.
